Little dog scared of big dog?

we have 2 rescue dogs who didn't know each other before we got them but they were best friends in our house and got them together.

One is a German shepherd mix the other is small not sure what kind, seems part basset hound and small fuzzy hair terrier mix.

Both are fixed. They eat in separate rooms but then they each go to the others bowl and lick clean but small dog went too soon and the big dog in one super fast motion turned and let out a scary sound.

Since then about a week,the small dogs been scared of me and the big dog and hiding under everything. She always was skiddish. Any advice please?

You're going to need to keep them separated until they are both finished. You can close a door to let them eat in peace.

Right now I'd take them both for a walk. Get them out and enjoying the air together with you. This is assuming the GSD is not continuing to pester your terrier. If it was a one time event then just go out and get everyone back on the same page.

Remember you must be a protector for both of your dogs. You might consider taking the little mix to obedience classes. They can really help with some of these issues.
