My dog has a large lump (more like a hump) on his back?

My dog pulled a post down on the back porch two weeks ago. It apparently fell on his back. Within the day, he had a large lump on his back. We took him to the vet, who gave us anti-inflammatory. It seems to be as big as ever. Last night, he licked all the hair off of the center of this lump.

Is this some kind of a bruise? What do we do?

Really can't afford to have x-rays taken.

If he were my dog I'd call the vet %26amp; see what they have to say. If no satisfaction, I'd take the dog back to the vet.

if you cant afford xrays you then you may want to check with your local humane society if you have one because most of their vet clinics offer a half off program for low income pet owners. but i really think that an xray is your best bet of finding out what is wrong or it may turn into an absese and that will cost more then an xray.

obviously the anti-inflammatory didn't do the trick. if you are needing x-rays, apply for Care Credit (many vets carry the forms)... that might help.

it's really impossible for anyone to diagnose things over the net... and especially laypersons.

Care Credit:

i sure wish you well, though.

You are gonna hate me for this answer: You have to get x-rays. If you rook the dog in, you must be prepared to pay for the consequences. If you do not get him to the vet for x-rays, you are not fit to be a dog owner. I am not a hater. I am a dog lover.

If you "can't afford" then you shouldn't own. Does your vet accept "Care Credit"? That's a third party financer that offers no interest as long as you pay off the bill within a certain term period. It has helped many people in your situation get out of ruts. Your dog needs extra testing and you should be ready to pay the big bucks.

get out your phone book and look up

humane society OR SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and dial them up about your situation.

sometimes they have programs for low-income families to help cover the costs of vet bills, or can suggest vets in your area that accept payments over time.

your dog might not need an xray (which usually aren't that expensive anways..around $40-$80)

your dog is injured! you know this. he is probably in pain too, though most likely wont' show it. animals mask pain as not to look weak. (that is instinct).

if you were in pain you would seek out a doctor. if your child was in pain you would seek out a doctor, whether you had the money or not.

please get this looked at. call around, it doesn't cost anything to call around.
