Dog with a nasty sore...?

My friend has a Pomeranian and its a little over a year and it recently got some little spot on it. At first it was just missing hair and looked like she had fleas or something. But now, a little over a week later I saw it again and it looks like a red ring around a wet looking yellow area. Almost like its puss. She's so worried but she is already up to her ears in debt and can't afford a vet...the dog is acting fine I just wish I had some clue as to what to tell her....I don't know what ringworm looks like but I hope its not that!!!

Dog with a nasty sore...?

that sounds like ringworm. Loss of hair, puss and a yellow area with a yellow or red ring is usually a ring worm.

Take her to the vet or a humane society with a vet on hand.

sometimes a humane society will help out low income families or those who can't afford treatments. They have vets on hand- and they can offer discounts and payment plans. Some even do some proceedures free of charge if you qualify.

and vets can do payment plans as well as offer discounts.

maybe you can help her out as her friend?

but please for the health of your friend AND the dog, the dog needs to be treated... ring worm is contagious and transmittable.

---edit to answer more of your question--

you can get ringworm anywhere

Ringworm is widespread around the world and in the United States. The fungus that causes scalp Ringworm lives in humans and animals. The fungus that causes Ringworm of the body lives in humans, animals, and soil.

he could have gotten it from a person, from an area he was playing in, from contact with another animal.

It is HIGHLY contagious and EASILY spredable. She can get it just from petting him and being into close proximity with him.

Scalp Ringworm usually appears 10 to 14 days after contact, and Ringworm of the skin 4 to 10 days after contact.

The time between exposure and symptoms isnot known for the other types of Ringworm

Ringworm of the scalp usually begins as a small pimple that becomes larger, leaving scaly patches of temporary baldness. Infected hairs become brittle and break off easily. Yellowish crusty areas sometimes develop.

Ringworm of the body shows up as a flat, round patch anywhere on the skin except for the scalp and feet. The groin is a common area of infection (groin Ringworm). As the rash gradually expands, its center clears to produce a ring. More than one patch might appear, and the patches can overlap. The area is sometimes itchy.

Ringworm of the foot is also called athlete's foot. It appears as a scaling or cracking of the skin, especially between the toes.

Ringworm of the nails causes the affected nails to become thicker, discolored, and brittle, or to become chalky and disintegrate.

after diagnosis and a treatment plan is given

Complete treatment as instructed, even after symptoms disappear.

Do not share towels, hats, clothing, or other personal items with others.

Minimize close contact with others until treated.

Make sure the person or animal that was the source of infection gets treated.

You may need to see a human doctor to get a preventative. You've been exposed, if it IS ringworm, you may as well go through the treatment to protect yourself.

ask your vet if that will be necessary

Dog with a nasty sore...?

Cheap fix.......

Sulfur %26amp; oil............50/50 paste

Dog with a nasty sore...?

thats what it sounds like. Some vets offices will make payment arrangements for people like your friend. Just have her call your local ASPCA and ask them where she could take her dog

Dog with a nasty sore...?

probably she is going to have to borrow some money...the vet is the only one who can give an antibiotic for this condition in the mean time I would use some neosporin (not the kind with pain relief in it) you can get the store brand at walmart for $2 just to start the healing of it because if you dont do something its just going to get worse and you dont want poor doggy to suffer

Dog with a nasty sore...?

It sounds like a hot spot. You will tell your friend to get the dog to the vets. It is infected and need to be look at and treated. If left untreated it will spread and the dog will eventually get sick.

Dog with a nasty sore...?

Please find a way to get it to a vet. It needs to be treated.

Dog with a nasty sore...?

Hello...well she can try cleaning it with providine iodine available @ pharms, wal marts, grocery stores %26amp; a dab of neosporin...it could be an infection and usually they're OK if they open up %26amp; drain in their own, especially if the dog can lick it to keep it open..otherwise you have to do that AFTER the first pop ( sorry couldn't think of what else to say ) it may get a little bigger, before it heals ...best to just keep an eye on it...if it really turns for the worse, then time for a VET..or many Spay %26amp; Neuter clinics have VETS, cheaper %26amp; very good ...inside or pampered pets can't really heal Nature's way like outside animals, which flies are good for !!! Take Care :)

Dog with a nasty sore...?

Try cleaning the area with Hydrogen Peroxide if it fizzes then it is infected. She can put some triple antibiotic on it and see if it gets better. Like Neosporin but there are generic ones that are cheaper. She could also clean the area with Betadine.. that is what is used in most hospitals when some one is going to have surgery. Try that and see if that clears up the area.

Dog with a nasty sore...?

I can tell you how to check for ringworm. Just put the dog under a black light. If the spot glows then it is ringworm. The fungus reacts to that type of lighting. Just remember that ringworm IS contagious and it can be spread from animal to animal and animal to people!!!
