Pet Hair in Carpet? How do I get it out?

My husband and I are moving in less than a month and we have several pet stains and pet hair on the carpet. Will a rug doctor take up the pet hair that the vaccuum won't take up? Should we hire a cleaner to come clean it? We are worried we won't get our $850 deposit back because of the damage and we didn't pay a pet deposit nor did we tell them we had a dog! :( (this is what we get I know) Any suggestions would be helpful.

I have the answer for pet hair, if you are willing to get on your hands and knees. Put on a pair of rubber gloves (like what you wash dishes with). With the gloves on, wipe in the same direction over the hair, and it will ball up for easy removal.

Good Luck!

calm down, there very easy step for this.

do you have a vacuum? if you dont see if u can borrow a freinds, and just vacuum the hair up, then, you can go to the closest walmart near you and rent a steam cleaner, their reallt cheap, its like 25 bucks,(it says to buy the matching detergent with it, but i use the cheap Xtra laundry soap for like two bucks and it works alot better, or you can use your regular clothes detergent and stema clean it, its easy, its just like using a vacuum but you go a bit slower, just make sure you do the whole carpet or itll look weird. and well, tats all you hafto do!

and IF (low chance) the steam cleaner doesnt pick up the stains, just but some pet stain remover from the store.

Well i hope i helped!

The dog hair is not that much of a problem, a vaccuum and some hard work. You can get some sticky sheets for problem areas your vacuum won't reach.

Your bigger problem is the pet stains. If the stains are newer use Nature's miracle and follow the directions on the bottle. I honestly would probably pay a professional cleaner to come in. That is your best chance at getting them out and getting your deposit back, but if they have been set in for a long time or you have tried to clean them with something else and let them sit they professional cleaner may end up bleaching or discoloring the carpet. Honestly you probably won't get all your deposit back if they have been sitting there a while. I had a roomate who let the dog stain the carpet and they had to replace all the carpet in the room even after the professional cleaner, but they only did it in the room with the stains so it was only a couple hundred dollars.

Petzyme works very well on pet stains - even old ones. I buy it at PetSmart.

For small areas, you can tackle pet hair with rubber gloves. Slightly dampen the gloves and rub over the rug.

I found that a hired chemical cleaner service did NOT do well with stains. They sprayed the spots and then went over the area with the machine. When that didn't get remove a spot, they said that that was all they could do. Not much help at all.

Good luck!

Arm %26amp; Hammer has a new carpt powder out that is supposed to loosen pet hair out of carpets. It is only like $1.99 or $2.99. Also go to Walmart, Target (I have also seen this at Rite Aid) and get Urine Gone. It is about $20. The local ABC news station in Seattle has a "Does it Work" segment and they have viewers test products and it actually worked to get rid of the stains, and some of the odors. After treating with the Urine gone, spray the area with Lysol. We had 2 dogs and we did this when we cleaned up their accidents and our house never smelled like dog. Also, you will need to sprinkle flea powder on the carpet too, just in case. If they find fleas they will charge you for flea treatments, which I think are like over $100. You don't need to clean the WHOLE carpet. They always have someone come in and shampoo the carpets after a tenant moves out.
