Dog whines at night?

My dog sleeps in a kennel in the house at night and he whines a lot during the night. He is a miniature daschund and has short hair. We have tried leaving a light on, leaving a radio on and getting him a new bed that has hight sides on it in case he was getting cold. We tried leaving him out of the cage for a night and he just ran all over the house making lots of noise. Help!! We are not sleeping very well. He is almost two years old and we have had him since he was bout six months old. He just started doing this about a month ago.

I'm sure the dog wisperer (you know that show?) would tell you that he needs much more exercise and stimulation during the day to be ready to sleep at night. Just like humans!

maybe you could let him sleep with you, he might just miss you or something, because my dog cries and yelps when he is in his cage

somthing is probley scaring him at night, or he may be sick and uncomfortible, try moving him to a different locasion, or have him sleep with you. poor baby

He might be lonely. When we first got our dog, we let her sleep beside the bed for awhile until she got used to going to sleep by herself.

the dog probally has to go pee. my dogs do this when they want to go outside to go to the bathroom.

maybe he wants you,he's sad he's having a nightmare cause when that happens to my dog i have to sing or scratch his stomach so try to find out what comforts your dog

try giving him a stuffed animal for him to sleep with at night my dog done has done this too... he would whine at night at first when we first got him and then he got used to his bed then all of the sudden he started whinning agian like he did when we first got him and we put a stuffed animal in there for him to sleep with and that seemed to help,,, now he just cuddles up with it and also we put a big blanket in there with him and covers him self and the animal up and goes right to sleep,,,, I hope this helps and good luck

My puppies whine when they want to be with me, when they want to be fed or when they want to go outside. It's probably one of those three.

Something might be upseting him. Try putting a sheet over his cage when it is bed time. You could also but a favorite chew toy in the cage with him as well. Don't come out to him each time he whines.

I would put the cage in the room with you that way he is close to you and he is still in the cage. Because you do not want to let him sleep with you because you can never stop once you start but he probably just wants to be close to you.
