Our dog is a sheltie, she is looking somewhat like a matted orphan, because no body has brushed her for a while until today. ( A bit neglected, like a red headed stepchld), Anyway today she has been brushed out very well and She loves it, but one person says to continute brushing and one says its ok to give her a bath now her hair will be much better after a bath. What do you think?

Minimum care for a Sheltie would be a complete brush-out once a week and a bath once a month. Before bathing, don't forget the toenails need cutting, the ears need cleaning and the anal glands should be expressed.

If you got all the matts out then yes bathe her for sure. If you left any in and bathe her then it will cause the matts to draw up and get worse. Thus pulling on her skin. Brush her more often she's not a stepchild. Or have her groomed. Good luck hope you win the bet.

You bathe, blow dry, and brush out AGAIN!!!!!!! There will be much more dead coat to come out after a bath. If you bathe and do not dry the dog, you can end up with mats again!!!!!!!!!

Giving her a bath with a good quality dog shampoo may help condition her coat some, but will mainly remove dead skin, dirt, or anything else she's been rolling in. I do think it would make her coat look better as it will also "fluff" it out. To keep her coat shiny make sure she gets a well balanced diet.
