Flaky Dog Rash?

The other day I realized that my weiner dog, abbey, had a flaky sort of rash on her lower belly and between her hind legs. Also, shes chewed off the hair around her butt. I was told that she could have a gland infection, but we checked and there doesn閳ユ獩 seem to be any pain when theyre pressed. Any ideas? Or should I just call the vet?

Flaky Dog Rash?

Could be a number of different things. Sounds like a flea bite allergy. This is most common. Also sounds like it might be helpful to add some essential fatty acids to her diet. Could also be food allergy. You may want to try a food such as Solid Gold or Canidae. One of our dogs had such a bad rash(bleeding and splotchy) we had to feed him vegetarian Avoderm for a while. The rash cleared right up and now he can eat regular food again. See your vet for treatment.

Our dog had similar symptoms. This really helped her a lot.

Use only the mildest shampoos(organic is great) and cool water only. When it flares up you may try adding Aveeno colloidal oatmeal to the rinse water. VERY soothing. It is made for humans and found readily at many stores. It comes in packs and is a powder to be mixed in the bath.

Good luck to you and Abbey. No more scabby Abbey!

Please don't rely on those over the counter treatments at the pet store. There are studies showing that they actually cause more harm than good. Keep it simple and mild.

You should call the vet immedialty and get it cheacked out. It could be even more complicated than it seems!
