My dog has a 3/4 inch cut on her head near her ear. Can I use liquid bandage on a dog?

She is a one year old bishon frise and I don't have money to spend at the vet unless it is necessary. She had a matt of hair near her ear that I could not get out by brushing. I was attempting to cut the hair off in that area and she was jumpy and I ended up cutting her skin. The cut did not bleed and she hasn't bothered it or appeared that it hurt her. Please let me know what you would do in this instance. If I put the liquid bandage on the area she cannot lick it because of the area it is at. I love my dog but I don't want to go to the vet if I don't have to.

a nip with the scissors probably won't cause to much trouble and I doubt the dogs ear will fall off, relax,

you would probably do better with a butterfly band-aid, the liquid bandage may cause a reaction with the dogs skin, and it stings line hell when you put it on.

I'm not sure about liquid bandages, but my vet said to use neosporin on dog cuts and wrap it with a bandage. Since the cut is near her ear, you wouldn't need to wrap it with a bandage. As long as you don't have another dog that may try to lick it off!

you can cause infection and then you will have a larger vet bill. You are not living in sterile conditions I expect and your dog needs to see a vet. You should have taken your dog to the groomer. You did know when you got this dog that it would get matts and you would need to have it groomed regularly, why do people get animals and not be able to take care of them? Why am I asking you this? Please take the dog to a vet or you could cause more damage like abcess. then that is surgery my dear or if you can't afford that, euthanasia.

I don't know but maybe you should go to the vet just in case.

in this case i would just leave it alone and let it heal if it is not bleeding and not hurting the dog. if you really wish to do something, call your vet and ask if they know of any home remedies that are not required to be done by the vet.

First off, don't ever take scissors to your dog, because that's exactly what can happen. I have worked in the vet profession for years and have seen some pretty severe lacerations from people trying to remove mats etc on animals that aren't properly restrained. If the cut isn't bleeding leave it alone, don't put anything on it except a triple antibiotic ointment and just keep it clean. If it begins to bleed, or looks infected take her to the vet.

Cats and dogs heal differently than we do. We heal normally within and on the outside about the same.

Dogs and cats heal very quickly on the outside, and the inside takes longer. So you don't want to cover up the outside with anything like that, cause you don't want to inhibit healing within in anyway. You could end up with an absess under there.

You are better off to clean the cut, and put on some polysporin or ozonyl and allow it to heal naturally.

I would just make sure you keep the area clean and check it every day. There is an antibiotic cream that you could get from the vet that is very inexpensive and it would keep the wound from getting infected. Good luck!!!

I would just leave it alone. It will probably heal on its own without doing anything. You could put a regular human antibiotic cream on it... if it would make you feel better.

I wouldn't use a bandage or it won't get the air it needs to heal. As long as it's not bleeding, just get some stuff to clean it and keep it from getting infected. Neosporin or something like that should work.
