Do chows have hair or fur?

My family is thinking of gitting a dog next year or so and I love chows and I am convincing my familly to get one under one conditoin. I cannot get one if it has fur because my mom is illurgic to fur. PLEASE. DO THEY HAVE FUR OR HAIR??????????????????????????????????

Do chows have hair or fur?

Chows have fur... But there is NO difference between fur %26amp; hair there the exact same thing people are allergic to the dander not the fur.

Do chows have hair or fur?

fur. i think most people are allergic to dander and saliva of the pet.

another note, please read up on the breed you get on how often to bathe them. some dogs do not need to be bathed every week or month or even years. constant bathing or too often will cause the dog's skin to be irritated

Do chows have hair or fur?

there is NO difference. fur %26amp; hair are the exact same thing people are allergic to the dander not the fur.

be very careful where you get a chow - the better choice would be an adult from a rescue

Do chows have hair or fur?

All dogs have fur. And people are allergic to their dander, not the actual fur.

The Greyhound is hypoallergenic, so they're great for people with allergies.

Do chows have hair or fur?

I have a chow at home. They have fur. To the people that say there is no difference yes there is ask any vet or groomer. And some people are allergic to dogs with fur and not dogs with hair.

Do chows have hair or fur?

Sorry... Chow's have fur... But might tell your mom she is going to have to check again. Never heard of a fur allergy (since all fur is different)... She could have a dander allergy- but that would mean any animal... since all animals have skin, they have dander. Or, she is allergic to the make up of saliva of animals...

Never heard of an allergy to fur itself... not sure that is possible. Might also want to ask if her allergies could be improved by taking anti-histamines like Claritin, Zyrtec, or Allegra.

Good luck

Do chows have hair or fur?

People are usually allergic to the dander, and not the fur. We have a sheltie (LOTS of fur), and an allergic hubby. I keep my sheltie clean (bathing and brushing), and limit the fur poofing around the house.

The problem with Chows is that the amount of fur they have is massive, and while most dogs seasonally shed, these guys seem to molt. And having the poor thing shaved at the groomers just a) negates the beauty of the breed, and b) makes the dander (dandruff in humans, and no, there's no way to get around it), more accessible to your mom's poor allergies.

Smaller breeds, like yorkies, have 'hair', in that it's silky, but the dog is still going to give off dander.

And no, there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog....believe me, I'd have one if it existed. Those little naked creatures like chinese crested still have fur/hair/fuzz.

Do chows have hair or fur?

I love chows too and yes they have "fur". Both kinds (the rough and short haired) shed A LOT all the time!!!

If you want a nice dog with "hair" check out a Springer Spaniel or English Setter.

Do chows have hair or fur?

Well, all mammals have fur, except for us, humans, since we have hair, but their really is no difference since they are both basically dead skin cells. So, yes, sadly, in this case, dogs have fur. If you DID get one though, maybe you should shave the hair off every time an inch grows back. Maybe she won't be that allergic to it. Anyways, best of luck.

Do chows have hair or fur?

Chow's are awesome -

They are cute and protective.

Just buy one and hope for the best. I'm sure your mom would grow to love them even if it kills her.

Do chows have hair or fur?

It has fur.

My mom is allergic to dogs and we got a Pekingese and he has 'hair' like fur. He does shed but his coat doesnt bother my moms allergies at ALL. We had a Shetland Sheepdog and a Husky that were given to us by one of my mothers friends that couldnt take care of them anymore and they bothered her so much we had to give them back so she can find another home for them.

My mom isnt allergic to dog 'dander' .. shes allergic to dog FUR. I can tell the difference between my Pekes hair and my Dachshunds fur. I got a Dachshund anyway even though I still live with my mom (but we turned the basement into an apartment so I basically live down there) .. so she doesnt spend alot of time near my Long Haired Dachshund.

She does fine with her for awhile, but if shes around the Doxie for too long her eyes get all watery and stuff.

Find a list of hypoallergenic dogs but Please note: One person's allergies may vary greatly from another person's. It is always wise to visit the dog to see if you are allergic to it before you bring it home.

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/allergy.htm

Find a breeder of one of the dogs and check out their facility (a good reputable breeder will have no problem with that) .. and have your mom spend a half hour with the dogs and being around them. See if she gets a reaction. She maybe allergic to the DANDER/SALIVA rather than their fur.

Hope that helps!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

my dog lucky is 6, shes about 20 lbs, blach fur (links to pictures below). i've had her since she was 1, but she got her from a shelter and do not know what breed she is.. we were told a pekinese/cocker spaniel mix maybe but we don't think so. when we cut her hair she gets mistaken for a black lab puppy.

any input?? ~thanks~

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

A mix. She looks like she has some sort of spaniel in her...definately looks like a cocker spaniel mix...but the shelter was probably just guessing at the other part. It is so hard to say when they are a mix - as long as she is a great dog...it shouldn't really matter. I doubt there is any Lab in her if she is that small. Very cute!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

it looks like a pekanese mix not lab i raised labs but got one with cocker in it Report It

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

terrier/mix

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

I don't think it matters what she is because so darn CUTE!! my dog is a giant mutt part Dalmatian border collie and pointer and some other dogs

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Looks like she may have some Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier) and possibly some Pappion. My guess anyway

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

She sure is a sweetie, regardless of the breed. I would never have guessed she was six years old. You can tell by the eyes she's sharp as a tack. You're very lucky to have such an adorable baby. Lots of love, kindness and patience will give her a nice long life with you.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

ask your vet on your next visit

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Definitely you can see both breeds, the head shape and eyes are pekingeses and I can plainly see Cocker as well. The shelter was right. If people are mistaking her for a black lab pup they are just not familiar with the breeds. I have worked as a Vet tech for 15 years and volunteered at animals shelters , I am speaking from quite a bit of experience.Check out puppydogweb.com for pictures of purebred dogs and see what I mean.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

She does appear to be a Peke/Cocker mix. She is her own breed though...the name of her breed is ADORABLE

Here are pics of puppies of that designer dog breed, called Cockinese..%26gt; http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Definitely got terrier in her. Probably a mutt. It doesn't really matter, though, she's ADORABLE either way!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Shelter is right, here are pekingese and cocker mix pictures and info below.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

I'm not so sure about pekinese because I do not ever remember seeing a black one before. Lab they do come in black. Got the cocker spaniel face though. Could be cocker spaniel/Lab mix.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

She's a mutt ... the best kind of dog there is. Judging from the shape of her muzzle, it's probably likely that she does have Pekingese.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Easy! You have a cocker spaniel/chawawa(dunno how to spell) maybe in earlier generations I can see a bit of pomeranian with her snout. she looks like a bit of the flat little pekinese because of her body shape and ears, that could easily be mistaken, but she has very little, if any. good luck with this cutie!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

In your pictures i cant see her tail usually you can tell a lot about a breed with the looks of their tails...to me she looks like she may have spanial in her and possibly terrior. but its really hard to tell by not being able to see her standing up to see her body shape and stance and the way her tail goes.

try measureing her height and looking up dog breeds look at her tail in the way it hangs and also the softness or coursness of her hair also the body shape that might tell you a lot of what breeds she may have in her...some times its really hard to tell .

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

no

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

She looks EXACTLY like our Border Collie/Lab/Mystery dog mix except she's a little smaller. My guess is probably a Border Collie/Terrier mix. The Lab would make her at least 10 pounds heavier.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

i'm going with a cocker spanial/pomorainain.... does"nt matter any way, she's one of a kind. you'll never be able to replace her. just enjoy her and rember shelter dogs are the best!!!

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

she looks like a pekeapoo to me. (pekenese/poodle mix)

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

I see the cocker spaniel and what might be terrier...

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Don`t worry about it. These so-called dog breeders don`t know ****.

Do you know what kinda dog this is??

Respiratory problem because of Doberman(dog)?

Hello,

my dad has recently had a triple bypass surgery on his heart(5 months ago) and we were considering of getting a doberman. With other animals, my dad had a hard time to breath; we had a cat not long ago with a thick fur coat and a while ago a dog and with both my dad experienced breathing problems. And i wanted to know If it is because of the animals coats or because of the surgery. And if getting a doberman would cause more breathing problems(Dobermans have a small coat of hair but they shed alot).

Also, my dad has never had any problems with asthma or allergies to domestic pets.Is it also possible that hes developping asthma or allergies?

Respiratory problem because of Doberman(dog)?

Cats and dogs have different dander in their coats, so while one may be allergic to a cat, they could be perfectly fine with a dog. I'm highly allergic to cat dander, but have had dogs all my life with no problem.

However, your father's health issues could be complicated by having pet fur and dander floating around. This is a question best posed to his heart surgeon.

Is there a good dog food that will help reduce my dog's shedding?

I have a chocolate lab/great dane mix and his hair is everywhere. Is there a good food that could help reduce this?

Is there a good dog food that will help reduce my dog's shedding?

I am a dog groomer. There is no food that would help. They say they will but that is just to get you to buy the food, But there is shampoo out there that will help cut back on the sheding about 80-90% depending on the dog hair texture. You should be able to get it at your local pet store. The shampoo haves a type of glue in it to keep the hair layed back so less will fly off. I have a couple of dogs that use it in my shop and there owner will not use nothing elese. I am not sure of the name but there are different brands out there. I hope this information will help you out.

Dog scratch me question.?

while playing with my boxer, she scratched my hand this morning. but it didn't bleed thankfully.... but its still bright red...and kinda like spots under the hair..lol will it scar???

Dog scratch me question.?

no

Dog scratch me question.?

Not really

Dog scratch me question.?

no, it wont

Dog scratch me question.?

You can talk to a doctor for free at the site below. Pick one out and ask! Good luck. ps they will email you back.

Dog scratch me question.?

no it won't it is just irratated. It will probably be red a few days depending on how bad it is. You scar from a scab being there so the skin underneath gets no light while the rest of your body does.

Dog scratch me question.?

no

Dog scratch me question.?

It could especially if you pick at it. But if you put an antibiotic bandage on it you will have the best chance of it not scarring.

Dog pregnancy?

i bred my lab 6 weeks ago today she has large teats lost belly hair and has put weight on but no discharge does there need 2 be discharge the vet stresses her out so dont want to take her

Dog pregnancy?

well there water breaks about 5-10 minutes before giving birth, and u can have a home birth depending on the breed as long as u already checked how big the pups were, and it depends on the breed too, like bulldogs almost always need c-sections

Dog pregnancy?

You may not see a discharge until she reaches time of whelping the pups.Your pet will deliver the pups at or around 9 wks. or 59 to 63 days from time of breeding.

Dog pregnancy?

About 63 days is the gestation period for a dog.

When a dog goes into labor she will start to pant %26amp; her temp will fall. when contractions start you should see a pup within an hour if not take to the vet immediatly!!!

Dog pregnancy?

She'll go off food the day she gives birth and shiver a little bit. These are god clues so watch out for them

Dog pregnancy?

6 weeks is to soon they carry for 9 weeks or 63 days

Dog pregnancy?

No there doesn't need to be a discharge. Hopefully your ***** and the sire have very low hip scores, clear elbows and current clear eye certificates. With over 45, 000 Labradors registered last year, yours needs to be pretty exceptional to be worth breeding!

Dog pregnancy?

there will be discharge when her waters break but that wont be for another 3 weeks dogs are pregnant for 9 weeks so don't worry everything seem s fine all the best

Dog pregnancy?

If you bred her in the 5 day window that she could actually be bred (dogs are not like humans - the 63 days are counted from when the eggs drop, not from when they are fertilized) then she probably is pregnant. Dogs also do not stop their cycle until after that 63 days is up as well (ie. their hormones are the same whether or not they actually conceive).

There doesn't need to be discharge, but it is indicative of conception (very light, clear discharge) - also the loss of hair and large teats are not indicative per say. If you are unsure whether she is pregnant or not, ask either your breeder or a local breed club for opinions on the matter. At about 6 weeks you may also hear the heartbeats if you us a stethoscope to listen (this is very difficult if you haven't been listening to what 'normal' is for your dog though).

Dog pregnancy?

If you've not have a vet check yet you really should take her, particulary if this is the first time you've bred a dog. You do not necessarily have a discharge when a ***** is pregnant, but you need to make sure she is definitely pregnant and not having a false pregancy or starting with a uterine infection. Your vet should also advise you about worming and nutrition, both of which are extremely important during pregnancy.

Dog pregnancy?

Any responsible pet owner knows a trip to the vet is an absolute MUST if your animal is pregnant. If you can't handle it, stop breeding your dog and cease being a pet owner.

How do you teach a dog to play?

I just adopted a dog and the foster parent says that wen he found him he looked like he was neglected badly because of his hair and health and such. Now he is healthy and groomed and everything and he isn't interested in anything! No chew toys, no balls, nothing! He just sort of looks at it and walks away. Is this normal?

How do you teach a dog to play?

Treats are a good suggestion. You can do the fetch thing by throwing them across the floor, but don't expect him to return it. Then I'd move onto a KONG. It's like a ball with a carved out middle. You can put treats inside of it, and when he returns the ball, give him a treat. Sorry, that's all I can suggest!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!

How do you teach a dog to play?

Maybe he is still recovering?

How do you teach a dog to play?

thats sad...

maybe he used to be playful but got a bad experience from his past owner..

How do you teach a dog to play?

for some dogs yes. try doggie treats. that will get his attention real quick.

How do you teach a dog to play?

you kind of answered your own question "I just adopted"

give the dog a little time to become more comfortable with you and more trusting. He will play eventually. Another thing is not to force it on him, it may scare him if he was mistreated. Concentrate on giving the dog affection and earning his trust first.

Also, depending on the age and breed (breeds if mixed) he may not be that playful to begin with.

Patience.

How do you teach a dog to play?

No, but maybe you could buy him a piano. LOL Just keep gining him love, he will come around with plenty of warmth and attention. If not he may need some puppy uppers, or doggy Prozac.

How do you teach a dog to play?

you need to try different toys buy a squeek toy, a ball, a rope ( tug of war ) buy one of those thigns that you get at pet smart theyre like $12 but worth it. You can put frozen peanut butter in it and the dog will play and sniff and chew on it until the peanut butter melts sit there with h im in the room and toss the ball to some one else and maybe hell get the clue -

its possible he just doesnt have the personality to play wich is sad . Im sure there is a toy for him, put peanut butter on a rubber bone and give it to him saying good ( dogs name )

i hope this helps because i love my dogs to death and playing with them is fun - one thing i can tell you they all wont play with the same kind of toy, one likes squeek, one like a hard rubber bone, one likes just a cheap stuffed animal, one likes balls, the one likes ropes or old blankets ( tug of war ) and the other plays with everything !!!

How do you teach a dog to play?

my dog is like that alot but when we got another dog that loved playing every once and a while she would play with me because she probably wanted more attention but shes usually shy most of the time

How do you teach a dog to play?

MAYBE HE IS SO USE TO NOT PLAYING BECAUSE THE FOSTER PARENTS DIDN'T PLAY WITH HIM AND HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO

OTHER WISE JUST TRY TO THROW A BALL TO HIM

BY THE WAY THAT'S VERY SAD :-(

How do you teach a dog to play?

my dog is the same and he's now 4 years old. i picked him up off the streets 3 years ago in a foreinge country and brought him home. he doesn't chew bones, or play catch. all he wants to do is chill.. HE LOVES HIS WALKS THOUGH, thats the only time i see his playfull side.. i love the fact that he's a chilled dog..

How do you teach a dog to play?

try touching him softly on his face (read: softly) with a toy so he notices that you want to play with him. do it again and again until he plays with you. when he gets annoyed try to throw the toy. be sure to also have food around. when you throw the toy he will be sure to bring it back as long as you have food to feed him with everytime he brings it back.

How do you teach a dog to play?

Yeah, normal for a dog that has never played with people. Dog's that haven't grown up playing ball or other games with people, find it odd. I met a dog that had only been put out into the back yard, no one went out with him ever. So when you would go outside with him, he thought it was weird to have people actually outside with him. So it makes sense that a dog that hasn't played, would find it odd, and not know how to, or want to participate. Especially if he was actually abused.. He likely is wary about new things, never knowing what might invite abuse. I say take it slow, and let him feel like he is home, and he is loved, and slowly introduce toys and games to him. Once he feels comfortable and realizes that everything isn't going to get him whacked, he'll settle down and maybe.. NOT for sure, but maybe he'll decide that it's okay to play.

How do you teach a dog to play?

I play frisbee with my dog. My advice is that you could use the frisbee as a dog bowl for awhile, so they get use to the frisbee toy and really want it.

It will take awhile as he might have got in trouble for doing things and doesn't know what playing is.

This will take awhile. You need positive reinforcement, lots of treats, everytime he looks like he is doing something. Lots of praise to start with - like it's a fun fair. You'll have to make a fool of yourself until he realises it's fun!

Start by throwing a ball or frisbee or whatever, if he goes to sniff it, or even moves towards it, - praise him. It might take a treat ever couple of steps until he picks up the ball. Praise again. start small - small steps until he gets the idea.

Good luck, it will take some time, but it will be worth it. He needs to been shown what to do, to know that he is loved and that it is ok to play.

I wish you all the best with it.

Liz

How do you teach a dog to play?

yup,he probably wasn't socialized very much.spend lots of time with him ,give him lots of attention ,no ruff housing.he'll warm up some ,but he may be aloof .he may need time to get comfortable enough to play. think if you were in a new place with new people and couldn't communicate .
