My Dog Was Hit By A Car!?

Hi, my dog was hit by a car last night. thankfully the lady noticed her, slowed down but still hit her. i took her to the vet and they said everything looks ok, no broken bones just gave her pills. Right now she is limping cuz her paw is cut but she is dry heaving a little with a little blood coming out, like a cat with a hair ball, otherwise she is walking with her tail wagging. Anyone have any experience with this or give me some tips.

I would seek a second vets opinion there may be some internal injuries that the first vet missed. It is definitly not good for a dog to be dry heaving with blood coming out. I would think there might be a problem with her lungs or stomach. She might however be having a reaction to the pills the vet gave you you didn't say what they were for and why did he give you pills if the dog is fine?

That is sooooo sad!! I am so srry for her!!! Anyway, you should make sure that the pills she is taking arn't making her sick like that. Then if they arn't making her sick then you just have to give her some TLC!!!

I had a cat hit by a car, so I would know!!!

The only tip I have is fix the problem on how she got out in the first place.

Roads are no place for dogs.

Other than that, just keep her quiet for a few days, and be thankful that it turned out as well as it did.

I would suggest wiping the blood off clean with a wet paper towel. Try to get her off her bad paw, of course she is limping, so, just make sure that she has a place where she can rest like a dog bed. Also, try to keep her off the stairs because that might do damage, like if she falls. I hope that this helps you!

she may be in shock or have a concussion...call the vet again or perhaps the medication he gave her is not agreeing with her i wouldnt take any chances

Yes, when my dog got hit, he had a partially collapsed lung, and had to rest. If blood is coming out of her mouth for more than an hour, call the vet and talk about it. The vet may already be aware of it.

Or it could be aproblem with her lung that the Vet did not catch last night. It may not be an emergency, but it is urgent to get it taken care of, because it can result in scar tissue that could make it harder to breathe, reduce stamina, and shorten her life by a few years...

oh poor doggie. im gald shes okay. sorry i dont know anything about this stuff. im just glad ur dog is okay. =]

hope she feels better.

I would definately take her back to the Vet immediately and if they say nothing's wrong, take her to another Vet for a consult. Bleeding out of the mouth could be from either her tooth is loose and needs extracted or something much worse, she could be bleeding internally and your old vet just didn't catch it. Organs can still be punctured even though no bones are broken. Did they do an xray or a skin graph? I would make sure you put some ointment on her paw and bandage it up with some gauze wraps. I'm glad your dog isn't hurt extremely bad, she was lucky! I hope this helps and good luck!

What kind of pills did they give her? Was it Rimadyl, Deramaxx, or something like that for pain? This could be causing some problems with her stomach. Make sure she is eating before giving her these pills, just like with people, pain pills can cause some serious gastrointestinal disturbances, keep a close eye on her and if she gets any worse take her to the vet. Also, call and ask your vet if this could be a side affect of the medications, they may want to cut the dosage.

Call the vet back, sooth her.
