Is my dog gagging?

My dog has recently started doing something weird. He is 11 months old. He will move his head back and forth with his mouth is closed. His head doesn't tilted all the way down like he's prepared to cough something out. While he's doing the movement he's completely silent. Sometimes it kinda looks like he's hiccuping. He does this maybe 5 times a day. Its completely random, so that means he doesn't do it after he eats or drinks. Is this gagging?

Notes: He is a soft coated wheaten terrier with long hair. I just switch his food to Wellness. We got another puppy a month ago. He drinks and eats regularly.

i would suggest a vet check. this is alittle weird and prob needs to be discussed with the vet. i doubt its gagging or choking as his mouth would be open and he would be in distress. responce to above entry = i very much doubt hypoglyceamia is the cause. this means low blood glucose and he is alittle young to have diabetic conditions at this age. see the vet for answers. speculation may make you worried.

Is my dog gagging?

it could be that dog has something in its throat and cant get it out! Contact a vet right now!

Take him to the vet, but it sounds like hypoglycimic shock. He may need meds or a higher calorie food. when he does this try to get a little VANILLA ice cream in his mouth. If that makes it stop then it is pretty likly to be hypoglycimia.

I don't know if this is the case with your dog, when my dog do it, it usually means that she is about to vomit.

If he were gagging, you would hear a very distinct gagging sound. Dogs do get hiccups from time to time, but frequent hiccups can be a sign of worms or parasites in the digestive tract. It would be in his best interest to see a vet and find out what's going on.

It sounds like he may have something lodged in his throat, maybe too far for you to see. I would take him to the vet. It may just be hair, but whatever it is it probably won't solve itself.
