Dog has type of rash, help!?

One of my dogs is after getting a rash in the crevice of both her back leg joints. Its very red and looks like she has bitten off all the hair and is constantly licking it which makes the rash worse. One of my dads dogs also gets it and he thinks it gets worse when he gives her too much tinned dog food. Anyone else ever come across this??

it could be several things...contact allergic dermatitis, flea dermatitis, mange mites, etc...you should consult your vet to be sure. some of these skin things can get out-of-hand fast, and cost you more in the long-run. best of luck.

Take it to the vet, PLEASE!!!! Why are you letting the dog suffer, and not getting a professional opinion? It could be any one of a number of things - please seek medical help!

Sounds like contact dermatitis. My aunt had a dog that would get it often. If I'm not mistaken the vet told her to apply cortisone cream to the effected areas, but you may want to check w/ a vet to be sure.

Yes, it sounds like exczema, one of my dogs has it, you can buy powder and a shampoo from the vets or animal stores.

sounds like mainge....go to a vet to confirm...but if you live in an area where foxes are about...then thats your source....mainge tends to run on an 7-11 year cycle....so the problem may be wide spread in your area. Petsmart have some powder to treat. But really go to your vet....as no-one can really diagnose without looking at the problem

It could be an allergy to fleas, best get her to a vet and see what they say

This could be a number of things...basic allergy (anything from food to household products)...flea allergy..mange...what you and your dad need to get your dogs off to the vets for proffessional advice...please.

Dog has type of rash, help!?

It could be any number of things but I would try to help her control the scratching before you worry too much. Call the vets office and let them know her weight and they can tell you how much benedryl to give her. I always have cortisone spray for itchies too. You can get it at the petstore and spray it on the skin where she is scratching. With Benedryl and cortisone spray it should only take a few days to heal up.

the best and only thing you can do is take the dog straight to the vets the question you ask can be answered by any but the best answer comes from a vet do it a.s.a.p for the dogs sake at least

I have 2 Shih Tzu's both use to get rashes all the time. They are allergic to flea bites, grass, and other things too. Like the others here said take it to the vet to find the cause and get it some relief from the itching.

Then find a product called Missing Link. It comes in a powder form and you sprinkle some on their food everyday. Since I started using it with my Shih Tzus there have been no outbreaks of skin rash.

Dog has type of rash, help!?

My dog has flea alergies and she is prone to hot spots. Whenever they flare up I take her into the vet and he gives her a cortizone shot and it's cleared up within the week. Whenever it's not to bad I just bath her with oatmeal dog shampoo and put neosporin on it. You may also want to check out her food and ask the vet what is best for her.

shampoo try to find one with incorporated fatty acids.

i got one from pets world with tea tree oil in it .and i changed his food to one with omega 3 fish oil in it so far touch wood it has worked really well.you can also try rubbing aloe vera gel on to the rash as this will cool it down help to heel it and it wont harm your dog if it licks it off. good luck hope this helped.
