Barking - pulling Dog? (Some of the time)?

We have a labrador that is not an agressive dog.

Whilst at home he barks at unknown visitors which is ok as this makes him a good guard dog.Once he has been introduced he is fine and mithers for attention. Whilst walking him though 90% of the time he is fine but if he sees a dog he doesn't take to - or a person he pulls and barks and the hairs on his back stand up.

Not only is this frightening for others he is quite strong and has the strength to pull really hard and has almost pulled me over or pulled my back a few times. We don't let him off the lead generally.

Is there any way to stop this behaviour - Is he protecting us or scared? He particularly doesn't like bulldogs, people with bright spikey hair or often very old people. We have had him from 10 weeks so nothing in his past. He has been castrated. He is about 3 years old. Will he grow out of it as well. Thanks

Maybe a obedience class would help.I would try that sounds like your dog needs one before he knocks you down.

When you walk with your dog is he in front of you or beside/behind you?

I am guess that he is just scared by them, I think the only thing you can do is calm him by just petting him when one of these people come by. He is 3 so you know the saying you cant teach a dog a new trick. So I guess the only thing you can really do is just yank on his colar and tel him to sit. Oh and if you touch him on the nose it is like a reset button.

It sounds like he is trying to protect you!! I would take him to a trainer and work on this problem, it can be fixed really quick! Good Luck!!
