Question about my dog's tail..its been hurting him a lot.?

well my dog is a golden retriever mixed with an english setter. He is 5 years old and has amost always been healthy. In the last 2 months or so, i noticed a spot on his tail where he began to lose hair. Then he began to bite the area. Now a black 'fungus' (not sure what is is) began growing or appearing there. I didn't notice a lot until today. Anyone out there who is a veternarian? Please i will be bringing him in for a check up soon. But i need real honest anwsers. Please this is not a joking matter. And i'm afraid it is hurting him a lot too. :(

It could be that the constant licking and biting has set up some kind of infection, you'll definitely need to take him to the veterinarian asap as he may need antibiotics.

The cause could be an allergy (find out more about allergies at http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/dog-a... ) or maybe he got a cut or nick when he was groomed/shaved.

You can use a clean warm water and an antibacterial soap to clean the area and apply a regular antibiotic cream such as Neosporin as a temporary measure until you see your veterinarian.

Good luck!

Well, my aunt's dog have a same disease.Use scissor or razor to trim the hair in the infected area then use alcohol to clean outside of the ears to protect him from more viruses and clean it further by cotton. Either way, go to the vet a.s.a.p.

There are no vets here.. Any fungus like thing should be seen and treated only by a vet.

He needs to see the vet. Take him for that checkup sooner rather than later. Why wait? No one here can diagnose your dog. If they try to, you know they aren't for real.

How soon is soon? Today? Tomorrow?

There are vets who answer in this section but how can you tell the difference between a vet and someone who says he is a vet? I could put "Vet for 15 years" under my answer and no one would be able to tell the difference.

Do not ever take medical advice from people who you can't guarantee the qualifications of. I'm not trying to deny you advice, but this is for the safety of your dog...take him to a real vet, you cannot guarantee the quality of online answers.

Golden's are notorious for food allergies. did you change his food recently? or like the previous answers mentioned it could be fleas. if you think he is in pain take him to the vets
