My dog is itching alot but no fleas?

my dog has been bitting and scratching a lot the past few weeks. So much she seems to get hair in her throat and throws up. she up to date on shots and frontline and heart gaurd. I have not seen any fleas on her and her food has not changed and neither has her shampoo. This just came up the past few weeks. Any Ideas? I will call the vet tomorrow but just wanted some ideas on what it might be.

A couple things come to mind. Dogs can get yeast infections in their coats that result in itching and scaly skin. Also, dog can have outdoor allergies that manifest as itchy, particularly on their feet. The vet will be able to diagnose.

Dry Skin, try to bath your dog with Oatmeal shampoo.

Is it a long hair dog? If it is, that could be your prolem and try switching foods.

My brothers dog does a similar thing and he has been classified as having allergies. To what I do not know...Also if you gave your dog a bath recently you might not have gotten all the shampoo out so that might be making her itch also. Have the vet see about allergies if you call and get an appt. But try and rinse your dog off just to see if there is any soap still left on her skin. Good luck, I hope this helps!

It might be dry skin, allergies, or it could be other bugs. Does your preventive cover mosquitoes? I know they are particularly bad in my town this year. Check with your vet for mosquitoe repellents they recommend. Just don't use anything with pesticides in them.

have you given him a bath? With the summer heat you should buy some spray in condition which you can find just about anywhere, its right by the dog shampoo.

She may have hot spots or just itching. What works good for my dogs sometimes is i fill up the bathtub if they will fit.. our doberman will not fit in there but we do it with our beagle is fill up the tub and then pour some of the shampoo you use on them... and then oatmeal just the regualr oatmeal and make it a little bath try and let him soak for as long as they can

Here's something none of you guys touched on. Improper diet. If you're not feeding a super high quality food such as wellness or nature's variety, your dog might be reacting to the fillers in low quality food, like, say for instance, science diet or iams. those guys use corn and wheat gluten and legs and beaks, and that's just to name a few of the fillers you might be feeding your doggie. Fillers like that are not only nutritional crap, but they can cause skin irritations and allergies as well. I might be way off and consulting with your vet is always first and formost the way to go, but a pure, nutritious diet can really make a world of difference.
