My dog's fur is curly in some places and straight in the other and long in one place & shor

My dog is a LhasaPoo, his mom was totally white and dad totally black. OK his dad was actually LhasaPOo and his mom Lhasa Apso, so he's more LhasaApso. He's 7-months and is housed outside in our backyard - plenty of food(Iams)water, and room to excersize. But his fur is turning grey/white in certain patches and it looks so ugly! (No offense, Bubba lol) Ok this is the scary part; for the past like three months it's been this way!

half (front half) his back is curly and short, other half (the back half) is long and wavy.. THen in the middle there's a small patch of straight hair that parts in the middle like LhasaApso! Is it possible for him to have variations of fur colors and length and etc all his life? Or is this just a "puppy phaze" even though it's been going on for 3 months?

PS - please ask/answer according to my Q, not whether I'm doing the "right thing" keeping him outside.

(We're working on potty-training him right now, so please no more "YOU ANIMAL ABUSER YOU") TYA

Some dogs just have weird hair. You could ask your vet if there's a reason for it,or try a different food or Omega 3 fatty acid supplements. It could also be a puppy thing. And,about keeping him outside,he's not meant to be outside,no dog is ,really. You'll have a really hard time potty training him if he's outside, because he will be confused.Get a crate or a baby gate and keep him in the house.Confine him when you're busy,at night, and when you go away. Google "crate training and housebreaking." It shouldn't be too hard to housebreak him if you're firm and consistent, but the longer you keep him outside, the harder it will be.Also,is he neutered, because it's way easier to house train a neutered male and there's no reason for him NOT to be neutered.

Oh,sorry,I didn't notice where you didn't want advice on keeping him outside!

Oh,he will look a lot better if you have his hair shaved to one length all over.My neighbors had a mixed breed with goofy hair like that, and they kept her shaved because she looked so strange when her hair grew out! Report It

Hi,

It could just be because he's half LhasaApso and half Poodle.. Mixed breed's color, fur and personalities vary b/c they're the mixture of two breeds with different color, fur %26amp; personality. Even though he's more Lhasa APso, he could completely take after poodle, because he's a little bit poodle. I know it's hard to believe, but this is actuallly pretty common. It's something to expect, when you buy a mixed breed.

Next time adopt from a shelter! =]

Those are the joys of a "designer dog"!!! You never quite know what you're going to get!

Keeping him outside will not help you to housetrain him. Keeping if with you in the house and watching him every moment is the only way.

i wouldn't worry. your dog probably has both curly and straight hair because of the lhasa apso/poodle mix so don't stress. also my dog has the same thing having both curly and straight hair and he is a pure bred labador retreiver so relax.

It might just be the breed. Don't worry! If you are still concerned then take him to the vet for a checkup. And if he

says nothing is wrong with him then take him to the groomer. Maybe they can fix him up a little. And I think it is a good idea to keep your dog outside. But just a tip, maybe you should keep him inside and take him out for short periods of time. At least I would. Not to be offensive. I hope I helped!!!

Its not a phase. by the 6 month mark, dogs have lost all puppy fur. Where do you live and whats the climate like? you could very well have him shaved or have his hair cut to at least be even. Bichons and poodles and other hypallergenic dogs dont lose fur, it keeps growing so he's need a haircut anyways. That might be what youre seeing: his hair growing longer and longer. Have you ever seen a poodle who hasnt been clipped in a while? lol. However since he is an outdoor dog, don't clip him if it is cold outside.
