Help with cleaning a dog's backside?

I'm dog sitting two Malteses, and one of them always gets poop stuck to his fur. I cleaned it the first time with soap and water, cut off some hair the second, but now he's done it a third time, and there's a lot. It's almsot like he didn't finish. He sits on the couches in the house, and I don't want him to get it all over the place. Is there anything else I can do?

If you find the mess while it is still "fresh" and not dried into his fur CORN STARCH is a wonderful cleaner.

Of course I do this outside but I sprinkly corn starch on the mess and then with a slicker brush I brush it out. Not only will it clean up the mess it will leave your dog quite white!

I find when it is dry that baby wipes really do a great job, then once I get it softened I can go to the corn starch.

Last but not least you can ask your groomer to clip or scissor your dog around its rear end so that the hair directly below their anus is shorter and then less likely to collect any mess.

I have two long haired dogs (Collie and Pomeranian) so I have plenty of opportunity to clean.

Buy some baby wipes.

At Target, their generic brand of baby wipes are surprisingly soft.

Go to the pet store. They have bath wipes like baby wipes. You can clean him up with those. If you were the owner I would tell you that it sounds like he needs the hair on his backside trimmed so it doesn't get in the way, but I wouldn't cut anymore hair off without the owner's permission.
